Parks and Gardens

Swanage has several parks and gardens of various sizes for both locals and visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery in and around the town.

Beach Gardens

Beach Gardens provides a range of recreational and sports services. These include a bowling green, tennis courts and putting green. The gardens can be found between Northbrook and De-Mowlem Road.

Days Park

Days Park, Swanage off Northbrook Road

Days Park is a large parkland area in the north end of Swanage. The park includes a recreation area and a large grassed area where ball sports can be played. Car parking is available at the north end of De-mowlem Road.

The Downs and Prince Albert Gardens

The Downs

The Downs is a large grassland area in the south east end of Swanage. Parking is available along the north side. Warning! The east side of the downs is a sheer cliff with no fence or barrier. The Downs is a good place to watch the carnival fireworks displays with views across the Purbeck hills, Bornemouth and the Isle of Wight.

Prince Albert Gardens

Below the car park are the Prince Albert Gardens which were developed on the site of the old miniature golf course near the pier in 1996. The area is a landscaped public garden with an open air amphitheatre and enjoys views across the bay and town.

Sandpit Field

Sandpit field is a large grass area half way along Swanage seafront. The park is used for many local events including the carnival and other festivals.

King Georges Playing Field

King Georges is a large field the stretches through the centre of Swanage. Car and Coach parking is available at the east end off Victoria Avenue. The park is popular for football and other ball sports but becomes wet in the winter and is liable to flooding. There is a skate park and children's play area. Toilets are at the entrance to the playing field on the edge of the car park.

Recreation Ground

The recreation ground can be found at the south end of Swanage seafront. The park has a range of amusements that will appeal to a wide age group and a large grass area where ball sports can be played. Car parking is available along the west side of the park.
