Last WWII Bunker on Sandpit Field, Swanage
The last surviving Second World War bunker on Sandpit Field in Swanage, Dorset, seen from the landward side looking out across Swanage Bay.
The whitewashed brick and concrete structure shows clear signs of structural decay, with long cracks running through its walls and exposed brickwork where the ground has worn away around its base.
Temporary safety fencing now surrounds the building, while old scaffold-tube railings and worn stone steps lead up to its flat roof, once a lookout over the bay.
Due to be demolished as part of the wider Swanage seafront project, this photo records one of the town’s last visible links to its wartime coastal defences.
