Swanage WWII Bunker from Below
Looking up the grassy slope towards the Second World War bunker on Sandpit Field, Swanage, this view shows the building’s distinctive overhanging concrete roof and the deep recessed opening beneath it, facing out over the seafront.
From this lower angle the whitewashed walls stand out against a large evergreen tree and the scrub, though cracks across the concrete hint at the structural problems that have led to its planned demolition.
Rusting scaffold-tube railings line the roof, and temporary fencing now keeps the public away from one of the last remaining pieces of Swanage’s wartime coastal defences.
