Sandpit Field WWII Bunker Shelter
The open seaward side of the Second World War bunker on Sandpit Field, Swanage, where a sheltered recess beneath the overhanging concrete roof now holds a simple stone bench.
A low whitewashed wall encloses the small paved area in front, framing a sweeping view along Swanage seafront, across the sandy beach and up to the town on the hillside beyond.
Up close, the flaking paint, crumbling brickwork at the base and heavy cracks in the render show why the structure is due to be demolished as part of the wider seafront project.
Generations of visitors have sat here looking out over the bay, making this one of the last chances to see a familiar Swanage landmark.
