Paddle streamer Brodick Castle at Swanage Pier
This photo which dates to the late 1800s or very early 1900s shows the paddle steamer Brodick Castle which was in service between 1887 to 1909 working from Bournemouth and owned by the Bournemouth, Swanage and Poole Steam Packet Company.
The Brodick Castle was built in 1878 by McIntyre & Co, Paisley in the Phoenix Works. The length of the steamer was 207.6 ft and 21.7 ft width. The steamer was launched on 18/04/1878.
It was first owned by Wm Buchanan and registered on 10/06/1878 before being sold to the Bournemouth, Poole & Swanage Steam Packet Co. in 1887. In 1910 it was sold to an Argentine owner but sunk when being towed to its new owner.
