The Purbeck Pirates, in conjunction with Swanage & Purbeck Rotary Club, invite you to invade Swanage for the third Purbeck Pirate Festival!
This annual charity event, held from Friday 25th May – Monday 28th May 2018, is returning to Swanage town and coast once again, promising musket and canon fire galore as pirates from across the country descend on Swanage for a fun-filled, four-day pirate festival.
Overlooking the main beach, Swanage’s Sandpit Field will be bursting with pirate-themed stalls and a living history encampment, with demonstrations of how we used to live, including stonemasonry and basket weaving.
For the younger pirates, there’ll be arts and crafts, mermaids, story-time sessions and the ever-popular Scooby Crew Kid’s Pirate Disco will be taking place on the Friday evening.
Bartholomew Leach, the Pirate Surgeon, will be on-hand to tend to the gruesome and bloody wounds inflicted during the weekend’s many skirmishes and sword fights, removing limbs and musket balls where required. Demonstrations of musket and canon fire, as well as sword fighting, will also take place throughout the weekend.
On Friday night, the adult Pirate Crews will embark on the Pirate Pub Crawl from the East Bar to the Red Lion, collecting hand stamps for each drink purchased along the route. On Saturday evening, Bridport’s popular ‘Boarding Crew’ pirate band will entertain at the Red Lion Public House, before the Pirate Beauty Contest takes place and the 2018 Pirate King and Queen are crowned.
Both Saturday and Sunday will see the Purbeck Pirate Parade wind its way from Sandpit Field along the seafront to Monkey Beach, arriving in time to watch the beach skirmish between the pirate crews and the King’s Men. All visiting pirates are invited to join the Pirate Parades.
Shanty singers Kelp! and the Wareham Whalers will be performing, as well as the hugely popular Folk Orc. The UK’s favourite Jack Sparrow impersonator, Jax Parrow, will be resident throughout the weekend, helping things go off with a bang and undoubtedly creating all manner of mischief too……
Swanage Shopkeepers will be ‘going pirate’ too, with most competing in the ‘Best Dressed’ shop window competition, thus creating a true ‘pirate town’ for the weekend.
So, dress as your pirate self and head to Swanage with friends and family for a weekend to remember! All events are free to attend, and all are welcome in the spirit of parley!
