This May bank holiday, witness the sound and fury of Saxon and Viking warriors in pitched battle as they recreate the siege of Wareham. King Alfred's court and the little warrior's training school both return for 2019.

Beware the fearsome cries of "Odin" across the Isle of Purbeck! You can also explore the Saxon village and discover what life was like during this harsh period.

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

Timings: 10.00am Saxon Living History Village open to the public. 11.00am Viking raid on the Saxon stronghold of Corfe. 12:30pm King Alfred's Court (lower camp). 'The forming of the great 'Alliance'. Meet Alfred, Lady Aethelflaed and the Brythonic Kings and listen in on Alfred's court. Training the 'Young volunteer warriors' to join King Alfred's army (main arena). 2.45pm Mustering the Saxon, Bythonic and Viking armies in the streets of Corfe in preparation for the procession to the Castle. Saxon and Brythonic army march into Corfe Castle and fortify the Burgh at the top of the hill. The Viking army enters Corfe Castle and lays siege to the Burgh Battle in the Main Arena followed by 'The Shield Wall' & The Wessex Champion tournament. 5.00pm Official end of display. Please be aware that there are steps, steep slopes and uneven paths in the castle. There is wheelchair access to the Outer Bailey only. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult
