Join local ceramicists Jayne Cunliffe and Richard Jeffery for a two day workshop using coiling techniques to build larger pots.
This workshop is suitable for those with some experience of working with clay - however, complete beginners are welcome.
The first day will be spent exploring this versatile hand building technique, setting out a simple design before starting to construct a large vessel from ‘coils’ - ropes of clay. We will start with hand rolled coils then move on to using a clay extruder to speed up the process. Working at this size with this technique means moving at the speed of the clay, and the pot will need to dry a little and stiffen up overnight before you can complete your vessel.
The second day will allow you to complete and trim your pot, and decorate it with slip - an opportunity to explore pattern and colour, including simple sgraffito techniques. We then fire the pot ready for you to collect a few weeks later. The pot will be fired to stoneware temperatures and will be functional. This is a single fire process, however you can choose to have us glaze your pot with a clear glaze over your decoration if you wish for an additional £10 (this requires a second trip through the kiln), and will take longer.
Cost: two days £65 plus £15 materials and kiln costs per person (clay, slip, and bisque firing), payable on booking. Maximum 8 students (minimum 4). Email email@example.com or message us on FaceBook with your email address to book, or for more information - we will send you a Paypal link to pay.
