Cornetts and Sackbuts conjure up the definitive sound of 16th and 17th century Venice - at a time the floating city was rich, powerful, beautiful and home to some of the finest musicians in Europe. This programme brings to life music that echoed around St Marks, entertained nobility in sumptious palaces on the Grand Canal, or was performed in the winding streets and open squares of this most captivating of cities.
The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble is a virtuoso group of period instrument specialists who have performed at many major festivals in the UK and abroad. Their performance includes music by Gabrieli, Monteverdi, de Rore, Grillo and many others, as well as introducing their new special portable chamber organ with impressively large bass pipes.
