Purbeck Art Weeks (PAW) May 27 – June 11 is a vibrant annual community Arts Festival that pulls together local artists, galleries, groups and schools to celebrate and share all forms of art and performance in Purbeck. ‘A Moment in Time’ is the theme for this years PAW - which moment, when? Come and find out!
Visiting Purbeck during PAW is a wonderful way to explore the hidden corners of this beautiful landscape, and in the evening relax and enjoy superb music surrounded by the Jurassic coast. There are competitions too – so something for everyone!
You can explore the many Open Studios, talking to the artists about their work and what inspires them, enjoying what you see, and perhaps buying what you love. The Fine Foundation Gallery at Durlston presents an exhibition of selected work from PAW artists on the ‘A Moment in Time’ theme. Rollington Barn near Corfe Castle hosts PAW’s collective exhibition, displaying work from all 100+ PAW artists and local schools workshops – it’s a great place to start your art trail after coffee, cakes or a light meal in the courtyard café.
Visit five exhibitions, studios or events, get five signatures on your PAW Competition postcard, and maybe you will be this year’s lucky winner of £250 of art of your choice.
There is a mouth-watering programme of events on offer to complement the visual arts – world class vocal ensembles are singing modern and renaissance madrigals and songs, including I Fagiolini with their superb production of Monteverdi’s opera Orfeo, also the fabulous Ate´a Wind Quintet playing a mix of music From Bizet to Gershwin, plus dance, film, a community performance and a variety of talks.
