Swanage Carnival
Once every year at the start of August Swanage comes alive as the carnival comes to town.
The week long event begins on Saturday night with a large firework display followed by the procession of decorated floats and bands on Sunday afternoon.
This begins a week of fun for the whole family with games and competition of every kind taking place around the town. Everything from the sand castle and crabbing competitions to the half marathon, which is a certified, official 13.1 mile road race, run under English Athletic rules in which the runners run around the isle of Purbeck.
The grand finale is on the following Saturday with a massive fireworks display and music from the local bands playing throughout the evening.
