Missing Dog - Lab/retriever

Lab/retriever Honey went missing on Monday 15 February 2010 from Kennels at Woolgarston near Studland and Corfe Castle in Dorset.

Honey has been seen near the Wytch farm oil field, and on 21 February was seen near Woolgarston, Corfe Castle, but she is a very nervous dog and could not be caught, although it is thought that  if someone with a dog approaches her carefully it may be possible to catch her.  Honey has been mocro-chipped.

She is wearing a disc with her name on it,and a green micro-chip tag.  Honey is a much loved pet and companion and her owners are desperate to  have her back.

If you see Honey , please ring her owners on 01929 425340 or 07847 242002.

Time off for good behaviour !

MERRY CHRISTMAS !
Our builders announced that despite the delays which had been experienced due to adverse weather, they would be stopping work on Friday 18th December and resuming on Monday 4th January. Apparently this is now the ‘industry standard’ and is actually a very clever way of handling the iniquitous ‘statutory holiday entitlement’ which this loony government has granted to employees at the expense not only of employers and small businesses, but of the core of the country’s economy itself.More...

Swanage in Bloom competition abandoned

THE Swanage in Bloom competition has been abandoned, bringing two decades of horticultural history to an end.

Organisers called time on the contest because of dwindling committee numbers.

Committee secretary Valerie Pike said: “After 20 years, the few remaining members of the Swanage in Bloom committee have reluctantly decided to call it a day.

TRADING STINKERS

No-one is in favour of alcohol being sold to under-18’s, except perhaps the under-18’s who try to buy it.

All the local shops and off-licences train their staff properly. They keep a ‘refusals book’ logging all occasions on which they turn away under-age would-be purchasers. They know that they and their individual staff members are liable to be heavily fined if they break the rules, and that they may even lose their licence.

But the Trading Standards people are going too far in their attempts to curb under-age sales, by involving themselves in what can only be described as ‘entrapment’.

Children grow up much too quickly. By 18, they’re wearing adult clothes, using make-up, and appear at times to be well over 20. So the Trading Standards people take one of these child-adults around, send them in to buy alcohol, then swoop as soon as the unlucky shop assistant has been successfully conned.

A child has to be 18 to have a credit card, yet allegedly somehow these ‘children’ have been furnished with credit cards to use in the off-licences, possibly to enhance the illusion of their actually being 18.

So every so often the Trading Standards descend on Swanage, ‘child’ in tow, and impose fines and penalties. Last time, I’m told, they “caught” 11 establishments in this way.

You might say they’re only doing their job. But I say that it’s deliberate entrapment and the whole thing stinks.

Education Swanage

The discussions with DCC about options for a secondary school continue. Although it has been decided to move from a three-tier to two-tier system, a number of people are exploring the possibility of a  twin campus school, with one site in Swanage and one in Wareham, rather than both sites in Wareham, as DCC currently propose.

If you are interested in keeping secondary education in Swanage, visit the Education Swanage website:

http://www.educationswanage.co.uk

The County Council will soon decide what happens, so if you have a view your input is needed NOW.

Unused Swanage allotments

I understand there is a long waiting list for the council allotments off Victoria Avenue.

Today when working on the family allotment plot I noticed that there are several unused plots which are very overgrown. I know that the council will sent out letters telling you to use it or lose if if you fail to keep your plot tidy so why are they not doing anything about the plot owners who are not using them at all? I am sure that people on the waiting list would be happy to take the overgrown ones over and use them to grow their own food.

Burnt out and dumped car

Seems flytippers or joyriders have been busy over the bank holiday weekend with a new burnt out car being left on the road near the council tip. It wasnt there at 8pm last night so it must have been dumped and set on fire between then and 9am this morning.

Looks like someone is going to wake up to a missing car on their drive. Its not a crime which we normally see in this area.

Saga over the sale of Swanage caravan park near end

SWANAGE Town Council has reassured locals that the conclusion of the saga over the sale of its biggest asset is near.

It has spent months trying to offload Swanage Bay View caravan park as it faces money worries and has remained tight-lipped on progress, with the item discussed in closed sessions at meetings.

After Liberal Democrats in the town called on the Tory-run council to update the public, it has released a short statement, but is still giving little away.

From http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/districts/purbeck/4492095.Saga_over_the_sale_of_Swanage_caravan_park_near_end/

I wonder what will happen to the clubs who use or rent rooms on the site?
