NEWS FROM HARMANS CROSS - MARCH 2009

50/50 SALE

Harmans Cross Residents - and those from anywhere else in Purbeck too - are being offered the opportunity to sell unwanted items on Saturday 7 March when the Village Hall will be ‘hosting’ a 50/50 Auction. Bring along the jewellery you no longer wear, collectables you no longer collect, or that old bike you no longer ride! - and turn them into cash. It will only cost £2 to enter a lot (max 10 lots per household), or £3 if you wish to place a reserve on it.. And whatever the hammer price, you get 50%; the other 50% - plus the entry fee - goes towards the New Hall Fund. Unsold items will be returned to the owner or donated to charity.Items should be ‘deposited’ for cataloguing by 2.00 p.m. on 7 March for viewing from 6.00 p.m. and sale starting at 7.00 pm when bargain hunters can bid for the products that they wish to buy.   The evening promises to be a lot of fun; The Residents Club bar will be open. Enquiries please to Robert Steel on 01929 481525

GRAND BOOK SALE

Saturday 14 March 10.00am to 2.00pm There will be over 2,000 books of all types, shapes and sizes on sale for just 20p each. Everything must go as the old book store is to be demolished to make way for our New Village Hall. A licensed bar will be open from 10.30am as bargain hunting can be very thirsty work! All proceeds will go towards our new Village Hall. We don’t need more books for this sale; tuck them away for our August Bank Holiday Book Stall on Field Day.

NEW VILLAGE HALL

We have now raised a massive £575,000 towards our NEW VILLAGE HALL project; only £120,000 to go !   We hope to be 'in the ground' by the end of July 2009 so any fundraising ideas and practical help will be very much appreciated.

The State of the Roads

Coming back from Studland today, I counted over 25 holes in the roads from the start of Studland village, along the main road and along the seafront and up the High Street as far as the Black Swan pub.

Under half the holes had marks round them for repair and these were confined to a short section of the sea front.

With all the money we all pay in various taxes which are supposed to be used for the transport system, it dosnt look like much of this is actually going into maintaining the current roads.

Perhaps if more people reported seeing new holes in the roads, they could be repaired before they get too big and dangerous for motorbikes, cycles and cars.
