Regular Live Music
The weekend before last the Robin Bibi Band from London played two superb gigs in Swanage. Saturday night at the Grand Hotel was an acoustic evening, and you could get a curry and a pint for only £7.50. Sunday afternoon at Bar Seven was full-on electric and absolutely stunning, with beer, cider and lager all available for only £2 a pint.
Admission to both gigs was free.
The Grand Hotel will have The Refrains plus myself on New Year's Eve, plus two more Live Music events on Saturday 17 and Saturday 24 January.
Bar Seven (new name for the old Victoria Club aka Shades Bar in the high street) will be having Live Music every Sunday afternoon from 5-8pm, with me at the keyboards plus Guests.
On Sunday 30 November my Guest will be Chris Collins (vocals, guitar) from Southampton. On Sunday 7 December Hugh Budden on harmonica.
All Welcome!

Work is under way on £15m recycling plant
WORK has started on a controversial new £15m composting and recycling facility in Purbeck.
The district council unanimously rejected the idea of the site at Binnegar Quarry, which was already being used for mineral extraction.
Their main worry was the amount of extra traffic that would be generated when both activities were taking place alongside each other, which is likely to be for several years until the mineral extraction is complete.
But the final decision rested with Dorset County Council, who gave the plans the green light, albeit with a clutch of conditions.

Out-of-hours medical trial ‘is working well’
A NEW out-of-hours service which was launched after controversy over the closure of Swanage Hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit overnight is working well, according to health bosses.
The Echo reported at the start of November how the service, launched in the wake of plans to close the unit between 10pm and 8am, had been well received by groups who opposed the closure.
The review came after Dorset Primary Care Trust claimed the unit was underused and, following negotiations with campaigners, decided on a four-month trial of an out- of-hours service.
The Open All Hours group and Friends of Swanage Hospital, who vigorously fought the plans, said early indications were that the service was going well.

Air Quality Monitoring at Swanage Rail Depot
Coal-burning is the single largest man-made source of sulphur dioxide, and exposure to high levels of it can worsen respiratory and cardiovascular disease. The elderly and those with asthma are particularly prone to its effects. So when Purbeck District Council, back in 2006, identified the fact that Swanage Railway steam engines were being left semi-lit at the Northbrook Road Depot for long periods of time, an investigation was recommended to find out if the ensuing sulphur dioxide emissions were causing a breach in the air quality regulations.
Swanage Railway, shortly afterwards, looked into the possibility of moving the depot to a new site - something which would obviously render any investigation at the existing site pointless - and so monitoring was put on hold. By spring 2008, however, as no progress had been made by the Railway on acquiring a new site, the Air Quality Division at DEFRA informed the council that testing should be carried out at the Northbrook Road Depot as soon as possible.
Sulphur dioxide emissions at the site have been monitored for the last three months, and will be monitored for a few more yet before full results are known. This all sounds a bit worrying, but the good news is that according to the council, findings so far indicate that emissions are falling within accepted limits and they are therefore optimistic about the final outcome.
Sandbanks Ferry back in action
Well at 7AM this morning I had a phone call to say that The Bournemouth - Swanage Motor Road and Ferry Company had put it's Sandbanks to Studland ferry back into action, which is great news for the people that use it daily. The ferry has only returned a few days late, and some of the commuters I spoke to today were delighted with it's return. There was talk of the price increase coming early but nothing has been said.
In unrelated news the accident that happened on the ferry road back in the summer involving a black Porsche and a bus will see the driver of the Porsche in court today.
